I have left sided cerebral palsy, so my balance isn't good. In the past saddles has always slipped to the right because I tend to put more weight on the right side. This saddle does not move, I am so impressed. I used to always loose my left stirrup, but not with this saddle. Really impressed that Matt Marlow was happy to create a new saddle to fit my requirements, I got the saddle I wanted and it is a perfect fit for my horse

I’ll post some praises on your fb page, but wanted to let you know that I rode in my new saddle yesterday for the first time.

Had my saddle fitter that did the tracings out yesterday to check the fit of it on my new horse…as his back seems very similar to the horse it was made for but as he just turned 5, I know there’s a lot of changing going on. She is a former fitter/rep for County and was blown away by the quality and fit of both my Heritage saddles. In fact, she is a dressage rider and asked if when “they honeymoon is over” with this new saddle if I’d be willing to let her borrow to ride in and show her trainer…this is a professional fitter who owns a consignment saddle shop…she’s got a lot to choose from!

She thinks the fit of this one looks great on both horses. I have not yet ridden in it on the horse you made it for (going to an event with the baby Saturday and have focused all my time this week on riding him), but rode the baby in it this morning and it is fabulous. I could not be happier.

The tracing was sent back to you and a bespoke saddle was carefully handmade and delivered to my door. The whole process was professional and efficient. We had our six month routine check today by a local saddle fitter. She was very impressed with the quality and fit of my saddle. It just needed a slight adjustment and a bit of flocking as my horse has changed shape over the months.

Hi Matt, just wanted to let you know how we're getting on with the new saddle.

Firstly, it's the comfiest saddle ever! And I've had sooo many comments about what a nice saddle it is, and lots of people asking where I got it from! Nicky stands still to be tacked up now, unlike before where he used to back into a corner whenever he heard a saddle coming, and fidget around while I tacked him up.

He used to shake his head when i'd walk him to the mounting block.. not now :) and he stands perfectly still for me to get on and tighten the girth - totally different from before when he would shoot forwards. He's still slightly cold backed he just humps his back and swishes his tail for a few steps but its still only early days and I expected him to be after the problems with his last saddles.

As you know his last back person was very impressed with the quality of the saddle and with the fit.

All in all, a very happy horse and a very happy customer, Thanks :)

I have had my lovely dressage saddle nearly two months now and I am so thrilled with it.

The process of trying the different saddles you brought for me to try, to establish the pattern that

would fit my boy and be really comfy and put me in the right position was great.

My ex-racehorse, now competing at Medium is much more forward and the muscle development

behind the saddle is really good, he`s moving like he does when loose, obviously very happy.

The quality of the workmanship and leather used is just as good as a known "brand" I have bought

in the past.

Hi Matt.....you recently made a bespoke Marple WH saddle for my
arab......just to let you know it fits him perfectly and I'm really really
pleased with it. I wish I'd have known about you 18months ago...it would
have saved me time, money and stress trying to find a saddle to fit him.
I've only ridden him in it 3-4 times so far but he's like a totally
different horse- he's relaxed, striding out, stretching his neck.....and
most importantly no bucking or rushing. He's standing still to be mounted
and even waited for me to shorten my stirrups without trying to dash off
straight away. Plus it looks really smart- you never know, we might get it
together enough to be out showing in it this year...

Sorry not been in touch sooner.

Picked the saddle up from you then horse went lame that weekend.

Sat it on him and seemed ok but wanted to ride in it before I got in touch.

Anyhow, just a bruised sole so he’s back in action now. Rode in saddle this weekend.

Hi Matt,

Alison just didn’t get enough time to phone you herself today but she wanted me to say thank you for sorting her saddle. We tried it on the Connemara last night, just in the stable and at first she starting biting her lead rope as usual. Then suddenly it stopped. We took it off, fitted it again, and no biting. Alison’s ridden in it today and it’s a perfect fit.
I have one happy horse and one even happier rider. She has a very rare genetic disorder which has affected most of the organs in her body. She’s totally blind and has quite severe muscular problems. The disorder causes hypertonia, which means her muscles are always short and tight. It’s difficult for her to sit up properly and her feet and legs become hard and painful. Today is the first time she’s been able to sit up – simply because the pommel supports her sufficiently. When she’d finished her ride she was excited because for the first time since 1994 her leg muscles were soft and relaxed and one of her comments was that today she actually has a neck and can raise her chin.

She actually compares the saddle to being somewhere between her old Ideal Jessica and the Albion K2 Genesis which physiotherapists advised us she needed. The little horse was just very happy to be able to perform 10 metre circles without any tension. We leave for National Championships tomorrow and number 1 item on the packing list was the saddle.
We’ve never had severe performance problems due to saddles, just niggles which are enough to cost marks with the high standard of competition. Hopefully those niggles have now gone and if today was anything at all to go by things can only improve.
We live in an area that’s not well endowed with saddlers or saddle fitters. Most people seem to struggle. I’ve actually posted on a local Facebook page with details of your services. One lady replied that you had made her two saddles and altered a few and the workmanship is first class. Hopefully we’ll see fewer people asking if anyone can advise a saddle fitter in the area and more people will turn to you.

Rode in my saddle today. Fits like a glove. Its beautiful thank you. Saddle flap length is perfect! Phew

Can't believe how soft the overall leather and padding is.

So very happy and my horse seems very comfortable.

Hi Matt,

I just wanted to say a very big thank you for the wonderful saddle that has just been delivered to us. I originally ordered a 16 inch working hunter saddle from you in November 2011, which was to my specification. You did at the time question me about requesting a 16 inch as you believed that a 15 inch would be the ideal size but you did as I requested (unfortuantely for me but it just goes to show you do your best for the customer) and yes you were right it was too big. I contacted you straight away and thought that I would have difficulty getting an exchange but you amazed me!. I sent the saddle back and 4 weeks later I have a brand new 15 inch working hunter that fits our Dartmoor like a glove. The workmanship is amazing and everyone has commented on what a lovely quality saddle it is.

Matt, Thought I'd let you know...

My horse is getting a little older now and having some stiffness in his shoulder (aren't we all??) so I had an equine chiropractor come look at him the other day...

Obviously the first thing she wanted to look at is the saddle and how it fits... which is still perfect after two years. She found absolutely nothing wrong, no issues at all, in the saddle area of his body, even though I'm a 190lb rider on a 14.2hh welsh cob, riding 3-4 times a week.

Of course, once she saw my saddle, then Hannah's and Poppy's...well, they speak for themselves!! i explained the process and you can see below how it's going... :)

I just wanted to share some photos of my new VSD saddle and Cesar that you made us.
I can not thank you enough!
Cesar Is a very happy boy, (I even got kisses the other day , it's been a long time since he has kissed me)
He is very relaxed through his back now ,even in trot. I just can't believe the difference in him willing to work now. He is even listening to me through my seat now and I am riding him bittless.

It really made me sad to think I had unknowingly hurt him when I purchased a flexi leather treed saddle. Thankfully I noticed sooner rather than later as he became dangerous in trot. He wasn't even as relaxed when I purchased a very expensive well made leather treeless saddle and the correct pad.

I just wish and I know my husband does too that we had known about you 4 years ago when I bought cesar as It would have saved us a lot of pain and money.

The workmanship and quality of the leather is outstanding. I am so proud and privileged to own one of your saddle. I even have it on display as I love it so much . I feel so lucky. You really have cheered me up Matt making a saddle that fits us both and makes him want to work with me instead of against as has often been the case. I feel like I am on cloud Nine!

I think the fact that you have managed to achieve a perfect fit for us without seeing either of us but by photos and tracings is amazing as we live in another country to you.

I rode in my custom Yin Yang saddle today and I LOVE IT! The seat is so comfortable and the leather and craftsmanship are amazing! Do you have a Heritage Saddlery saddle cover? I would love to advertise where I got my great saddle. I've got to tell you, I have been on the hunt for a saddle that fits me and my horse for over a year. I have tried at least 15 different saddles and even consulted with semi-custom saddlers, but to no avail. I think I have found a hidden gem and I am going to spread the word because your saddlery has been the only one to make a saddle work. RE: AMAZING SADDLE!

Hey Matt, it was 52 degrees here today, so i got to do some jumping in my awesome saddle! The calf and thigh blocks keep my leg in the perfect position, and I can't tell you what a difference the point and balance girth system has made. My old saddle used to pop up in the back, so when i would post, it would be popping up as I was going down, which was not only difficult for me, but probably very uncomfortable for Kimo. This saddle is just like riding bareback, but without the discomfort of the withers! I will be ready for the hunt bridle and bitless bridle within the next month, and also will need a matching breast collar. I'll let you know when. Can't wait to see the overall picture put together at a show with all your products!

Hi Matt,

Four--year-old thoroughbred, Moogatti, completed his very first horse trials this past weekend, running cross country and stadium in a Heritage Bespoke Inner Balance Yin Yang monoflap.

He was a rockstar with only one (piloting-error) rail stadium and a clean cross-country trip with a few time penalties because his rider is not permitted to take her GPS along and got lost (just a little) on course.

My feedback - sorry for delay!!!

I ordered 2 x made to measure VSD Working Hunter Yin-Yang saddles and I couldn't me more happy with them! After years of struggling with getting saddles to fit, to have one that is a perfect fit first time and every time - let alone have two of them, is brilliant!! The quality and craftmanship is second to none and the saddle is very comfy to ride in. I won't hesitate to order another when my next youngster is broken in as I will not settle for second best again!

I just wanted to say how very pleased I am with the bridle I have just bought from you (received it just over a week ago). Your advice on the sizing was spot on - the XFS size is right for my horse. The quality of this bridle is fantastic and I'm so pleased that it is a British product and, not only that, but actually made in Walsall. Although I now live in West Yorkshire, I was brought up in Walsall and have always been very proud of it's worldwide reputation for saddlery. I only wish I had found out about your company a year or so ago when our livery yard had all its tack stolen - I could have ordered one of your saddles. I will be recommending you, although I think the quality speaks for itself. I went to a little showjumping competition last night and several people commented on my horse's new bridle.

The fit, balance, comfort for me and my horses is

Hi Matt,

I took my horse up to Carolyn's today to get our new LS Jumping Saddle. It is
more than I ever dreamed of. The quality of workmanship is superb and best
of all Phoenix went so well in it. His shoulders were so free, far better
than any other saddle I have tried (and thats a fair few !). He jumped like
a stag, he looked so happy and I felt so safe. The design is absolutely
fantastic and I am so pleased. Thank you so much. I can't wait to go for a
massive hack tomorrow. ( maybe have a pub stop to celebrate !) I will

I have the saddle, and it is beautiful! The LS design is a wonderful way to work with the big shoulder. The saddle sits right behind the shoulder and doesn't slide back. Perfect design idea, I don't know why this hasn't become common is all makes of jumping saddles.

Hi Matt,

I just wanted to follow up on my new MK II LS saddle I received a couple of months ago.

As you know I struggled to find a saddle that would fit my young 17h warmblood. He is narrow and has a very high wither that runs a long way into his back. I tried many brands of saddle and had a couple of saddle fittings, however no-one had a option that cleared his long wither.

After sending you his measurements and photographs, I didn't really think you could build something that would satisfy all my criteria for both horse and rider. After all a tracing and a few pictures to a saddle maker on another continent? But Matt kept in touch and shared information about a special tree design that his father had kept around.

The saddle arrived on schedule, the workmanship and quality of the leather is fantastic and well beyond what one would expect for that price (I have a couple of saddle that cost a lot more but are certainly not superior).

I have now been using the saddle for several weeks and am starting to see some changes:

1. Within a few days my horse was moving more freely and seems more comfortable.

2. He has moved up two jumping levels.

3. He is starting to show more muscle on his top line, especially around his shoulders.

4. This saddle needs no breaking in. From day one it felt as though I had owned it forever!

I would highly recommend Heritage Saddlery to anyone looking to purchase a good quality saddle. Also, if you need a custom fit for you or your horse, Matt offers great service and tremendous value.

Hi Matt,

Just a follow up to let you know that my saddle is still as beautiful as the day it arrived and Billy loves it. It has been admired by many and I have told everybody about it and where it came from.

I am active on pony dressage pages on facebook and often reply to queries from people wanting advice for the super wide short backed ponies we all love giving strong recommendations for a custom made saddle from yourself. Hopefully some of this has filtered through to some additional business for you.

Hi Matt,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I’ve have only had a couple of chances to ride in my saddle since I got it.

In short I absolutely love it, fits my horse beautifully (have attached a pic, sorry it’s on a saddleblanket, I only thought to take it at the last minute), and I don’t know how you make those seats so comfortable, it feels like you are sitting on a cloud. The saddle does not move on her and I can even go down a slope now without having to zig zag so that the saddle doesn’t end up on her neck, lovely even panel marks, and her back has remained soft and supple. I am glad I got the narrow twist, the first couple of times I rode it felt a little wide for the first 10 minutes but after that I didn’t notice it (that’s what you get when a narrow person riding a wide horse), now I don’t feel it at all, and I have noticed that it is so much easier to dismount from, I used to get heavily pushed in the groin by the pommel of my old saddle when dismounting.

I am so grateful I found you and made the decision to get you to make my saddle, I will never buy another saddle any other way. How you make something that fits so beautifully from a few photos and a couple of measurements is a testament to your skill and expertise and the finished product is a display of your fine craftsmanship. Hi, I would recommend (and have done ) this saddle company to anybody
considering a new saddle. At last I can ride in comfort after a bad fall,
breaking hip, pelvis, spine and foot, all thanks to Matt,s excellent
saddle fitting taking into account my needs as well as my horse's. the
saddle is of excellent quality and in my opinion it would be very hard to
find a similar quality product and service. I also purchased some
brilliant soft rubber reins that should be a must for anybody with
arthritic hands. 10/10 rating.

I ordered the Yin Yang FC Mono-flap saddle for my hard to fit self and horse. It was an easy process of getting the pictures and tracings to be able to get the right fit for my horse. Matt was also very helpful in getting the right fit for me. It takes a little while (not as long as other custom saddles) but it is worth the wait. The saddle fit my horse like a glove and I haven't felt him move that well in a long time. I loved the seat which was very comfy and I was able to sit to canter which has been very hard for me ever since my back injury. I'm so very happy with my saddle! Now my husband wants one :-)

Mr. Marlow,

My saddle arrived Saturday. I was so impressed with the leather and
workmanship, but feared it wouldn't fit; it looked narrow to me.

My fitter (who did the templates I sent you) was gracious enough to come out
yesterday to look at it and promptly put my fears to rest. She simply noted
that you "stuffed the heck out of it," which she was very pleased with,
saying that it would be easy to take out or move wool if needed...but it
doesn't look like we'll need to...after just a 15-minute ride this morning,
it sits on him fantastic...and it's so comfortable. And, I read others'
reviews of your saddles noting the "amazing balance" and your website's
touting of balance as well. I was skeptical, but no more! I cannot believe
how totally and instantaneously I felt in complete balance and complete
comfort. I would have gladly gone out and galloped a cross-country course
within just minutes of mounting up.

Ordering a saddle from overseas, of a brand I'd never seen (let alone ridden
in), nor having ever even spoken directly to an owner of one of your
saddles, I was more than a bit worried about taking the plunge. And, even
though your saddles are an incredible value, that was still a lot of money
for me to gamble with. Now I realize it was one of the best investments and
best values of any riding equipment I've ever purchased.

Now more than ever, I am very interested in spreading the word here; folks
need to know that such an affordable quality custom saddle option exists.
Let me know if you'd like to chat more about what I could do to help promote
your saddles.

My fitter said she'd gladly recommend your company as well...she was very
impressed at how exactly you followed her template...she said it couldn't
help but make her "look good."

?Hello Matt,

I've had some really good rides in my new saddle and feel confident in saying I love it!! I think it fits Rowan and I really well; it's beautifully made, I feel very secure and balanced, and is extremely comfortable!! There is no rocking or rolling, it sits nicely down on Rowan's back giving a closer contact feel, he's rounding up better, and is taking the correct leads when cantering. I had a riding lesson this evening and my instructor was very impressed, she is considering one for herself! In fact, she even went as far to say "He's brilliant, and you can pass that on", lol

There is nothing about this saddle that I don't like, thank you again.

“I show hunter and equitation, hailing from the Midwest region of the United States. I am 6 foot tall and my partner is a 16.2 hand draft mix. I have NEVER ridden in a saddle that fit either one of us properly. I researched all the top end and middle line name-brand saddles out there, adoring some of the high-end saddles that were frankly not in my budget. During my research I came across the name of Mr. Marlow and Heritage Saddles several times on blog sites. His LS design offers my horse freedom in the shoulders he did not have even in our draft-tree Stubben and Corbette. It truly offers every feature I liked in saddles 3+ times the cost of mine. I stayed in budget, and husband is happy about that. He even worked with me get my new treasure shipped back to the States – I received it THREE days after he sent it off!

I have never been able to give such a glowing and positive feedback on a product! I highly recommend Mr. Marlow and Heritage Saddlery. The quality, craftsmanship and value can NOT be beat. After a lot of issues and various saddle fitters for my D mare I'd lost all hope of getting that perfect show cut saddle. My mare was un rideable, bucking, bolting and rearing with ill fitting saddles which numerous professionals said fit her perfectly.
I asked Matt to come out and start again. After literally looking at my mare and the saddle I was trying to ride in he advised on the tree being too narrow for her. We measured her up and I said what I wanted and within 6 weeks I received the most beautiful saddle! Matt came back to fit it and watched us ride. We were both so much more comfortable and she relaxed as we used to.
I've now got three tailor made saddles from Matt at Heritage Saddlery, and I certainly won't be using anyone else. My horses are all different breeds and sizes and have their saddles made to fit them. Not the horse to fit the saddle! Amazing and stunning work!

Hi Matt. Yes, Alison says it’s OK to use the email (see below) I just thought you’d like to see the difference the saddle has made, not just to Alison’s ability to sit up but also the horse’s frame and ability to relax. Various people had told us that it was typical of the mare’s breeding and type that she was just a tad short and tense. She certainly wasn’t that way at this year’s nationals, and yet again they did the double, winning the championship dressage and the freestyle to music. The photo in trot is the before and the walk one is after.

Purchase: I had no idea last November when I set out to find a proper fitting saddle for my Amish Warmblood that it would take six months of trial and error before I realized my only option was likely to be a custom saddle. I tried 11 different saddles from the "best" makers. I worked with three saddle fitters, two of whom were full of manure. I trained myself along the way to what features were good and what were not good. Somewhere around trial saddle #7 or #8 my stubborn streak kicked in. I can thank one of the saddle fitters for setting off my heap o' stubborn; she told me I should "get used to the back pain of a wide twist because the saddle fit the mare." Um...no. I knew we could do better. I set out on a mission to find a saddle that fit me AND the mare. One day while idly perusing saddle websites I came across a saddler in the UK who made stock and custom saddles. The guy had 3000+ transactions through his store on ebay and a PERFECT feedback score. I emailed him and he got back to me immediately. We talked and then I sent him my mare's wither tracings. He was used to the issues my mare presented; wide back and deepset lat muscle that every saddle I tried impeded. We discussed attributes that I knew worked and he suggested additional options that he knew would work. I appreciated his deep knowledge of horses and saddles so pulling the trigger on the saddle was a no brainer-- I ordered the saddle. He told me it would take six weeks and right on time, my new saddle arrived six weeks later. Punchline: WE LOVE OUR NEW SADDLE! The maiden voyage was marked by a whole lot of stretching and happy sighs (I think by both me and the mare). Not only did I find the best VALUE at $1700 (!) for a saddle, it's beautiful and comfortable for me and my mare. And did I mention it was $1700US?? Delivered to my farm in Columbus, Wisconsin? I tried saddles that ranged in price from $2200 to $4500. This one can compare with any of those saddles for design and quality, hands down. Most importantly, it fits us. I will use Matt Marlow at Heritage Bespoke Saddlery again. You cannot beat the quality at any price and it fits my mare like it was made for her, because it was. Heritage has been in business a century and Matt is second or third generation saddler. He knows horses and he knows saddles. Thank you, Matt.

Likes: The saddle is beautifully constructed of fine leather, and it's the most comfortable saddle I've ever sat my tush in.

Hi Matt,

I rode in my (LS) saddle today! It fits my horse like a glove. Amazing. I have never seen a saddle that molds to his shoulder so well. And it's VERY balanced; it probably helps that the saddle is balanced FOR MY HORSE! Even my friends with their $5000 saddles were impressed. :)

I just can't get over how balanced this saddle is. I saw even sweat marks after my ride - couldn't believe it...

With regards to the jump saddle...I am really torn! I have no doubt if I ordered from you the saddle will fit beautifully. I feel like I ought to ride in more jump saddles to better specify what I want, though. If I found a saddle that felt good to me...are you able to match it's design?

We're still very happy with
the saddle! I only regret that I didn't remember to order a dressage
girth from you, and had to buy one over here instead. Will get you
high-quality pictures when I can get someone to hold or bribe my horse.

"My Icelandic horse is very wide, barrel-shaped and has large shoulders,
which makes finding a fitting off-the-rack saddle more or less
impossible. Even the saddle brands that carry really wide saddles (for
example Frank Baines or L&R) couldn't fit my horse unless the saddle was
made to template. After having seen Matt's work and read lots of good
reviews on the web, I ordered a custom dressage saddle from Matt, and
sent photos and templates, as well as written info on my horse's back
and what kind of saddle I wanted.

The saddle arrived quickly; turnaround time was about a month, and it
fits my horse perfectly! Saddle balance, panel configuration, gullet
width, tree shape, flaps - everything is right for him, and - most
importantly - he seems happy with his saddle. I find the saddle easy to
sit centered in, and it doesn't force you into any position or lock your
legs like some saddles can do. Another good thing is that the saddle is
neat and short with no unnecessary bulk, which is important to us with
shorter-backed horses.

Leather and craftsmanship are of high quality and comparable to much
more expensive saddles.

I highly recommend Matt if you have a wide and/or difficult-to-fit horse
(or if you simply want a very nice saddle). He understands wide horses
really well and is very easy to communicate with.

About two years ago I purchased a custom made Cheshire saddle from Heritage Saddles for my very broad Thelwell look-alike pony. The process of fitting the saddle from the other side of the world was very simple-four digital photos and a tracing from a flexicurve pattern of my pony's back. Being able to select features for my saddle meant I didn't have to compromise and it was completely suitable for what I wanted to use it for. 6 weeks later the saddle arrived and it fitted my pony perfectly. It is great to ride in putting me in a balanced and stable position.

I loved this saddle so much I got another saddle made for my very-hard-to-fit Arabian. This time the basic design was a Cheshire but incorporated features from two other styles of saddle. Nothing was a problem and Matt kept in contact every step of the design process. Again 6 weeks later a perfectly fitting saddle arrived all the way from the UK.

Both saddles are used for general hacking and light jumping but because of the quality could still be used in showing and turnout classes.

I also purchased girths and stirrup leathers which were very good quality and competively priced.

If I was to buy a saddle off the rack for my pony I would have been stuck with a synthetic saddle that would have actually cost more. As for the Arabian I would still be looking for a saddle that would fit her properly.

I am happy to recommend Heritage Saddles as they produce a quality product, are reliable and very helpful.

Just wanted to let you know that the Yin-Yang MKII (LS) made to measure jumping
saddle is everything that you promised it would be. After seven years of
trying to find a saddle that would fit both my beloved horse - Punch and
myself, I will admit I was sceptical. I had been told so often by saddlers
that it was asking the impossible due to my length of leg, I am six foot
tall and my horses big shoulders and extremely-wide withers. I must have
tried every make of saddle you can think of, even made to measure saddles
which fitted Punch, but were too straight cut to be comfortable and safe
for me. I had nowhere for my long legs to go so my knees stuck over the
knee rolls, or over the edge of the saddle. Not good on a horse as sharp
as mine! However, at last we have the perfect saddle. What a fantastic
idea the Yin-Yang saddle is - the ideal solution! Already Punch is happier
being saddled up and he strides out confidently while I at last have a
comfortable ride. I have a lovely soft seat AND room for my very long
legs! I am also so much more confident as I have knee rolls where they
should be! We are off for a good gallop along the beach next week - with
one of my friends -yippee!!
I just wish I had known of you sooner. I would have saved myself a fortune
in saddles that didn't fit, despite being told that they did! I may also
have saved myself a good few falls due to lack of knee rolls! Still they
do say that all good things come to those who wait!! I would recommend
this saddle to anyone who has problems finding a saddle to fit. It really
does do what it promises and costs no more than other quality saddles. It
really does fit both horse AND rider, because that is what it is designed
to do. Other saddles may claim to be made-to-measure, but as I have
discovered the basic saddle size and shape remains the same. After years
in uncomfortable saddles I feel jusified in saying that the rider's comfort
and safety are also important. In the past I have always had to sacrifice
that- but thankfully no longer! I can now enjoy riding knowing that both of
us are thoroughly enjoying ourselves.

Good morning Matt,
I have to say I had totally forgotten how lovely it is to sit in one of your saddles. Titch was reaquainted to ridden work this week and wow what a difference. He was described by his past owners as "cold backed" and i was advised to keep him in regular ridden work because of this. I was told if he was off ridden work for a week or more it wasn't unheard of for him to "hump or bronk" when first mounted and in the time i've had him this had been proven as true. However he has taken to your saddle like it's a part of him. He has been out of all work since mid oct '15 and in the last two weeks worn it during in hand and ground work without blinking where previously he would round his back up into his saddle shortly after tacked up or when taking the first few steps, with his new heritage there was none of this. Then this weekend after a short lunge session i got onboard fully expecting an explosion of some kind but it never came! Not a single raise in his back, no shooting forward and he can bend! We had some tail swishing which was in reaction to my legs aid but i was astounded at just how relaxed he was, I got off with a tear in my eye so incredibly grateful for the work you do! Thank you :)

The mare seems to like it too, she was stretching down and was relaxed, two great signs.

As I was in the same position as yourself, living in France and not being able to try before I bought a saddle. Matt asked me to email you to explains my experience when I bought a custom saddle after having an absolute disaster with a flexible leather treed saddle that had only been used for a short time.

I first contacted matt last year regarding a saddle but as money is tight I thought it best to go with an off the peg saddle that Was designed for flat/ short backed horses. It was the worst thing I did. It made my horse un rideable/ dangerous. At first we thought it was my boy being naughty as I have had 4 yrs of problems with him . I had an master saddler out to check the saddle/ it should never have been sold as an adult saddle. So after yet again months of saving I got back in touch with heritage saddles/ matt but of course had major concerns over the fit and comfort of the saddle as I don't have the money to keep on wasting buying saddles and had to get this right or my husband would have divorced me as I have in the past bought 6 other 2 nd hand saddles that just didn't fit him correctly.
Matt really did help me get the right saddle and helped me regarding taking a template over emails. and it fits my fjord perfectly and is very comfy . also the workmanship / quality if the saddle is amazing. Far superior to more expensive saddles that are available in France. We will be ordering another for our youngster very soon as matt did a sterling job on the fit quality cut etc. I'm only 5'1 and my fjord is 14" 2 and it is the correct fit for both if us.

As finding the right saddle meant everything as I had had 4 yrs of hell trying to find the right one/ bad behaviour and for the first time ever I can now canter my horse and now have my confidence back after all his bad behaviour.

Hello again. Finally I remembered to take a picture of my General Purpose: The Bowden VSD/GP with Velcro blocks. I have now had it for almost 2 years and it still looks brand new. Both, I and my horse is very happy with the saddle. It fits very well and it is very comfortable. This saddle is customized. Many challenges to the saddle to fit, since the horse has large shoulder blade and short back. But YOU did it. Craftsmanship is incredibly nice. I recommended saddles you produce to everyone I meet. You knew I was very happy with the saddles, they are so comfortable, and
the grippy leather is superb, and my friend in Bendigo just showed me their
new one from you, and it is beautiful for their leading rein classes and

hi matt finally got round to letting you know we are more than delighted
with the saddle, we are training to go away to a 3 day event just now and
the difference it has made is brill. We had trouble with her not picking
up her fore legs properly and we were sure it was saddle problems as
lunging her bareback there was never a problem. It has taken her a little
while and it must be said us too to have confidence in the saddle but she
is improving in leaps and bounds and jumping with greater confidence every
outing now. it is beautifully made and comfy to sit in i will certainly be

Most humble apologies but I have been on holiday and then spent the last few weeks playing catch up.

The saddle is absolutely perfect, it has to be the most comfortable saddle I have ever sat on, you almost forget there is a saddle there when you are riding it is like riding bareback and it has certainly improved my posture (so my riding instructor says).

Cheyenne’s movement has improved tremendously now that his shoulder has been released from his old style saddle and we are both improving in leaps and bounds.

I cannot recommend you highly enough for your help and would without a second thought buy from you again. The quality and the finish of the saddle is excellent and a big thank you to your saddler, definitely money well spent.

I would without hesitation recommend anyone thinking in investing in a saddle try you first as I wish I had done this from the start, it would have saved me a fortune in the long run.

Long story short, like a lot of people I've spent a lot of time and A LOT of money on saddles and fitters trying to fit bad saddles to my gelding who is a difficult to fit Welsh cob - short backed, now a dipped back, big shoulders. At the beginning of last year my boy was diagnosed with a bad back, inflammation and muscle atrophy due to a badly fitted saddle. End of last year he had the all clear to ride. I spent most of last year researching saddles and fell upon Matt, I liked the idea of the ying yang LS vsd saddle, after running out of money I decided to sell a load of stuff to raise money for one. Decided to get a made to measure version, but I was apprehensive due to being let down so many times and having to do the measurements my self.
I've now been riding in it for the couple of weeks and I love it, so does my boy, bearing in mind he is now chubby and unfit he is soooo much more forward going. He moves so much more freely allowing him to stride out more, and get his bum underneath him I wish I done this year's ago. The saddle is smart, lightweight, comfortable and puts you in the right place. Worth every penny.
Anyone in need of a saddle just call Matt, the "large shoulder" range is a genius idea and worth the money if you have a large shouldered horse. Would definitely have another.

Can I just tell you how delighted we are with the pony saddle you made for
our Welsh B mare. She moves so much better now with free shoulders and the
saddle fits perfectly. I don't even need to use the crupper strap now as the
saddle no longer creeps up her neck.

The saddle fitter just left. She was a different one from the one I used to measure for my first saddle…she’s new in the area and very close to my farm. She’s wonderful and raved about your saddle. She did just a tiny reflocking up in front…was very impressed with the quality and fit and detected no soreness in my horse’s back.

So, I had her do the tracing, for a new saddle, and will get that in the mail to you asap.

More great news…that saddle fits my new young horse great! I suspected it was a good fit, but the fitter confirmed it for me. So…I’m all set for now with him too! He’s just four, so who knows what he’ll need when he’s older, but good to know I can use my saddles on him as well for now at least.

Hi Matt, I wanted to give the saddle some time to break in, get accustomed to it, etc etc before I reviewed it so it could be a genuine impression. So here's the outcome:

Review of Custom made "County Show" Saddle

It's great! My horse is moving better, really better! Even in the heat of summer when he's a slug. My position is better and if we get a leaper or a bad spot jumping I seem to stay more centered than I used to.

The leather quality & work is excellent, I have zero complaints.

The color is most excellent. I have no idea how you got an exact match to my leather by photograph's only, but it looks great.

Our saddle fitter here has looked at my saddle as well as Shannon's saddle. She is very impressed. In fact, she says she is not sure how you do it for the price!

I will be happy to refer anyone I know considering a new saddle in the U.S. in the future

Hi Matt, so pleased with the saddle. When I ride in it I feel more balanced than I did in my previous saddle, and my leg stays more still than it did before! Just wanted to say that I am still extremely pleased with my Endurance Saddle ;D

Oddviti ended up getting 4 weeks off due to having lost a shoe when I got back from holiday, so due to being rather lively, he has kindly put the saddle (and me) through further tests last weekend ;)
Testing included jumping up and down while I was attempting to get my right leg across the saddle while mounting. On the road testing included very sudden halts, sideways spook followed by halt. From walk to flat out gallop with no prior warning, side ways spook in walk followed by gallop. About 6 really bad stumbles with front legs, so I had no horse in front of me. Through all the testing saddle never moved and somehow I never lost a stirrup or moved away from that comfy deep seat. I do think the new leather front girth and the leather girth with elastic are helping to keep the saddle in place, so very pleased with them.

I received the saddle today, its beautiful thank you. Can't believe how soft the overall leather and padding is.
I'm nervous that my legs are going to be too long for the flaps but will try it on and ride in it as soon as I can tomorrow.
